Mad About Argyle

After a two month hiatus...

I'm ba-ack.

What's been new? Moved back to Blue Springs, moving to LA tomorrow. I know, it's crazy. But this isn't a travel-blog, this is an argyle blog! I have a lot of catching up to do, I KNOW.

Before I pass judgment on things that seem to be really popular nowadays (i.e. Twilight, other vampire-related things, Family Guy, Dane Cook, etc.), I usually give it a pretty decent try before I decide to hate on it. So yes, I've watched and read Twilight, I've watched a few episodes of Family Guy and I've listened to Dane Cook's CD. I've even been known to give full seasons of television shows a chance: like Heroes (eh) and I even watched an episode of some tv show with Kenny and Ben (I forgot what it was called, but I would really like that 50 minutes back).

Everyone has been going on and on and ON about Mad Men. Basically it's about Sterling Cooper, an ad agency on NYC's Madison Ave. It's centered around Don Draper, the CD, and it's set in my favorite time period for entertainment: the 60s (sigh, I miss American Dreams). I've been watching 3-4 episodes a night before going to bed and I took a screen cap recently:

These wonderful yellow, blue with white accented argyle is worn by Bertram Cooper (Robert Morse). Background: he's pretty into Japanese culture and refuses to let anyone wear shoes in his office, hence the socks.

So there you have it! I hope this holds you over until my next update (coming soon, promise).

The Semple Life

OMG.

I have been MIA for over a month. My apologies, my faithful readers.
For my big comeback, I am displaying (for all the world to see) a fellow blogger, viscommie and good buddy of mine, Erin Semple:

Here she is, sporting well...argyle (duh, the objective of this blog). Isn't she darling? She also resembles Keri Russell (Erin is cuter, btw). Erin and I met through Amanda Senn (another fellow viscommie). Erin and Amanda play golf together. If you recall, I posted a blogyle entry about Justin Timberlake, argyle and a golf magazine. It all comes full circle!!

I hope this update was sufficient, I've got a few more posts up my sleeve so keep a look-out!

Argyle always,

Jessica

Argyle is All That.

Do you guys remember Saturday Night Live? This past April, Zac Efron hosted an episode of SNL and did this really funny skit where he comes back a year later after graduating from East High (vid above). Check it out! Sometimes SNL is funny.

Okay, now to business.

Remember Kenan Thompson? He was in All That. And then he started doing the Mighty Duck movies. Remember this show?

Now he's a regular on SNL and in this particular skit, he is wearing argyle! Lookin' good, Kenan!

Capital Fashion

I know I have been AWOL as of late. And the most I can do is apologize. SORRY! I know I have deprived you, my dear friend, of such a wonderful pattern. But now that school is over, I will have updates out the wazoo. And I promise not to use the word “wazoo” ever again.

For my first post as a college graduate, I have decided to feature my first lady and yours, Michelle Obama. Michelle sports many looks with her argyle and like her overall style, she does this in a very classy and simplistic way.

Personally, I’m a fan of argyle sweaters and sweater vests. I don’t own any argyle cardigans, though I do enjoy plain cardigans. I used to have this thing where I was against argyle cardigans because I felt that the buttons disrupted the pattern. After much consideration, I’ve decided I can deal with argyle cardigans. I am, however, still on the fence about argyle zippered cardigans/jackets. But seriously---do zippered sweaters count as cardigans? I never thought so. Check out these pics:

I am diggin’ this color scheme. It’s very brownie-girl-scout-esque...which is something I always associate when I see brown and blue together.

I thought this look was interesting. A belt over an open cardigan? Eh, I don’t know. But I do enjoy this argyle cardigan! Another peeve I have with argyle fashion is that I am totally against argyle on sleeves. It’s just... ew.

Another argyle cardigan. Dannnnng, gurl!

And of course this post can not be complete with the mention of my favorite color, purple. But seriously, ‘Chelle... how many of these cardigans do you own???! That’s four, people, count ‘em...FOUR argyle cardigans. She’s catching up to my count so I better be on the look out for more argyle.

Beary Busy

Things have been cray-cray as of late, as I prepare for my senior show. Right now, my other blog is getting my attention, so you should check that one out to get your fill of me. To tie the two together, here is what the view from where I work looks like:

This is Bearemy chilling with an argyle sweater vest next to my external hard drive as I work, work, work on a Sunday afternoon.

Pargyle (like party + argyle).

So it’s Sunday night, the first out of the past 5 nights where I haven’t been socially-lubricated. This past weekend was a bit cray-cray, resulting in a swollen ankle (you guys know my fear about this!), scraped knee, various mysterious bruises, laws broken and more fun stuff like that. But this blog isn’t about that boring stuff!

It’s about argyle!

And I know I’ve been MIA, but I’ve got some good entries lined up (promise!) Here’s a pic to hold you over until the next entry:

This is my buddy Jeremey, and his argyle underwear! He saw me at a party and said, “Jessica! I have to show you something!” and proceeded to unzip his pants... ARGYLE! I look very excited and hot (temperature-wise) and who knows what I was thinking because I sure don’t remember. I look pretty happy, though! Argyle does that to me.

Jeremey is a second-time-blogyle-entry-subject. Click here for the first post Jeremey was mentioned.

App-surd!

(If you read other blogs I write for, you know I’ve used that title already. Oh well!)
I just spent the past few hours looking up/getting apps for my iPhone. I got like 11 new applications, ranging from Beer Pong to BubbleWrap BUT. This isn't a Beer Pong blog.......

YEAH!!!!

Specs:
1. Mobile book.
2. Supposed to be funny or according to the reviews: “HILARIOUS.” We'll see.
3. Only .99!! (the second app I’ve ever purchased. The first one being “Night Camera”...which is a really good application, it automatically adjusts your lens so that you take better pictures when the lighting sucks)
4. The thumbnail graphic is so, so cute!

Other things :
I had a dream that I was taking my aviation midterm. Nothing was really going on that was out of the ordinary except that the person next to me was taking the test in a full scuba suit. I felt mentally drained when I woke up. Tests are exhausting!

Purple is SO in this (Lenten) season.

Happy Ash Wednesday.
In preparation for the Lenten season, today, I am sporting a wonderful purple argyle sweater. I went to church this morning with Kenny and his friend Jessica D. Kids were cute, I like Mary Immaculate a lot. Sermon was short, got ash'ed.

Argyle things:

On Truman's website, they changed the picture by the login portal:

Underneath the login, wonderful blue, gray, and white argyle sweater.
Also, you can see by my tabs that I was on Facebook, Wikipedia's “Great Lent” page and the Truman site.

I’m giving up meat for Lent.
I’m also giving up other things that have been bad for me.

Valentine Argyle.

Yikes, it's been over a month since I've posted. A lot has been going on and I've been keeping busy with a lot of different things (see: jessicaendaya.blogspot.com for a brief overview).

As far as argyle goes, I wore argyle on Valentine's Day. It was that blue argyle sweater vest that I got for Christmas. Interesting enough, a year ago on Valentine's Day, I also wore argyle. It was a pink and purple argyle number that I have.

That is the sweater I wore a year ago. This picture is NOT from a year ago, it is from last November. Something I like to do, mostly involving Xanga, is to look back at where I was a year ago and it never fails to amaze me how different things are since then. A year ago on V-Day, I had dinner at Manhattan with DVG, I had the Athenian panini. It was pretty good, as far as sandwiches go. I remember it was pretty crowded and we sat in the that middle aisle. I also remember laughing at a joke he had about "taking/learning something from every relationship he's been in." It  made me laugh because from an ex-girlfriend he had, he learned what kerning/tracking was. And then I remember we went back to my apartment and I gave him a really big heart-shaped sugar cookie that I made for all of my friends earlier that day. And then we watched the new episode of LOST! It was a really nice Valentine's Day. This past Valentine's Day, I nursed a hang-over from one of the worst Friday nights of the semester, didn't get some phone calls returned, played Super Mario Bros. 3 w/ Abby, ate Chen's and had a few beers with Jimmy at the Dukum. All In Good Company (like that Topher Grace movie), it's just interesting how different the two situations are/were.

I don't even really talk to David anymore and it's not either of our faults, I guess. We just kind of grew apart, and I guess it didn't help that we kind of left on bad terms. We talk occasionally, but it's just sad that I invested so much in that friendship and at this present point, it's just a memory. But I don't regret any of it, and I think that's what I learned from being briefly with him, is that shit happens, stuff doesn't work out. I should stop dwelling on what could've/should've been said or done and to live in the present. And really, it's his loss (or anyone else in a vague sense) to not keep this friendship growing. It just kind of sucks when you realize how one-sided things are.

I don't really know where I'm going with this, so I guess I'll stop!

Oh, and Demetri Martin's new show is SO SO SO funny.
& LOST is getting pretty good.

Loosen up my buttons, baby.

Classes have begun and I’m already exhausted. I guess to be fair, I can’t really blame my classes. A lot has been going on. My Godfather has cancer and he recently just had surgery. I talked to my mom today and she says that he’s doing fine, but I still worry. Also, in two days, I have had too many fights and quarrels with people who are important to me and I think that I really need to evaluate myself. I’m not a good person, so I don’t know why I think I am. I feel really bad for things I’ve done and said and I am determined to fix everything. But I guess the first thing I need to do is fix myself, which is a lot easier said than done. I’m greedy, clingy, selfish and self-centered. I don’t know how people put up with it.

Cute buttons, huh?

You can stand under my umbrella...

...ella, ella, eh, eh eh...under my (argyle) umbrella....

Found this wonderful find at Target in Coral Ridge Mall, located near Iowa City, Iowa.

Iowa?! What the heck was I doing there?! Well, Amber and I were there for a my friend and fellow viscompadre, Stephen Emlund (check out his site) -- he got hitched! Anyway, Iowa is pretty okay. There were a lot of tall, good-looking men there. I saw plenty of argyle sweaters at the food court, too.

Argyle CULTure

For those NOT in the know, Russell Simmons is one of USA Today's “Top 25 Most Influential People of the Past 20 Years.” He is not only a hip-hop pioneer, but he is very inspiring in all aspects of the entertainment business and more importantly, the fashion industry.

He is an entrepreneur and along with Phat Farm and HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and Def Poetry Jam, Simmons has launched a new ground-breaking fashion line, Russell Simmons Argyle Culture. (Check out his site here) Additionally, here is a screenshot. From a designer's POV, I really enjoy the navigation of the site and I took a quick liking to the simplicity and the incorporation of argyle seen at the bottom of the page :

RSAC is mostly urban clothing for men and Elle recently showcased the Spring 2009’s Ready-To-Wear fashion runway show featuring RSAC. There are a ton of different types of argyle... here are some of my favorites boys, er..I mean, argyle pieces :

Totally diggin’ the crazy diamonds and bright blue shorts.
Actually, I recently purchased denim pants of the same color.

Not too sure about all the white going on--
it’s very... Morgan Freeman in Bruce Almighty-esque.

Can’t go wrong with purple!

A bit of khaki-overkill, but the socks are kinda cute.

For those who don’t know me very well, I am all about bright colors, so the pieces that Russell Simmons put out intrigued me. I’m not really a fan of the white tennis shoes, but I enjoy the stark difference it makes in comparison to the crazy-out-there-shades of color. My favorite ensemble would probably be the last picture. Though some people may argue that the sweater vest contains just diamonds and not necessarily an argyle-pattern, I like the checkered, salmon-colored button-up and the gray shorts to compliment the sweater vest. I’m not big into accessories on men, but I mean, this guy is obviously TD&H, so who’s complaining? Not me.
